the dalys had a farm in ballintober, co limerick, eire... john (jack) cleary married mary ellen condon - they had 7 children (nelly, norah, denis, jim (dad), mary, john and nicholas) - norah and nelly died young - nicholas died in childbirth and john died in 1941 aged 21 of appendicitus - mary ellen died and jack married alice casey... jack farmed and ran the only taxi service and funeral parlour in ballylanders (taxi and hearse were the same) - he died 4 may 1958... denis was sent up to manage the small holding in baggotstown - he married cathy, expanded the farm in baggotstown near bruff, limerick - had children (mary, breda, john, martin, anne, donncha and gerard) - martin still manages the farm... Cathy died 22 october 2016 after a fall at the farm... dad's sister mary left to join a convent becoming sister michael - she managed convents in england (kelton in liverpool, hearne bay, others) - she died in 1999... three more children were born to jack’s second wife alice - eamonn, norah and willy... eamonn married mai in mitchelstown and ran walsh’s bar - the bar is still there and run by mai and son john - eamonn’s daughter, mary, also lives in mitchelstown - eamonn died 7 april 1996... norah and willy lived in ballylanders in the family home managing the farm - norah died 2 april 2000 - willy died 2011.... _____________________________________________ peggy was a daly - her father was con daly and her mother was margaret henessy - the dalys had a farm in ballintober about 2 miles outside ballylanders on the kilfinane road - children were dick, peggy, billy, breda and john... peggy's brothers bill, dick and john stayed single - breda married johnny lenihan from anglesboro - they ran a farm and had 5 children (michael, peggy, mary, breda and helen) - michael still manages the anglesboro farm and the ballintober farm (unfortunately the ballintober farmhouse/family home has fallen into disrepair)... dick died in ballintober 5 october 1999 - john died in ballylanders - billy died in london about 1980 - breda died in anglesboro about 2001... peggy broke/trained horses as a girl but arrived in london 16 years old about 1935/6 with her younger brother billy... _____________________________________________ |
jim cleary got £20 and left for england - he came to liverpool and slept rough in the catholic cathedral crypt - ended up in the workhouse between the wars - escaped with the help of a catholic priest who funded his return to eire....
jim then had another try at emigrating - went to jersey where he lived in a bunkhouse and picked tomatoes, then london where he met peggy about 1936 - she lived in lodgings with billy her younger brother - the landlady was not happy about her seeing jim - peg locked the landlady in a cupboard after dad had seen her home and escaped with billy - they moved in with jim... jim and peggy had four children - john, jimmy, vincent and maureen... john and jimmy were born in london, evacuated during ww2 then returned to eire with mum - jim stayed in london fire watching and fighting... bill walsh paid for accomodation/food for peggy in ballylanders (thanks bill) until she was able to rejoin jim in liverpool after the war - jim paid bill walsh back for the costs (£10) - the letter from jim still exists and is included later... peggy died in 1984, jim died in 2002... john cleary emigrated to new zealand september 1961 - he lived in petone, wellington - he died June 2015... vincent lives in nottingham - married lynn osborne in 1978 - they had 2 sons - dan and joe... maureen lives in halewood, liverpool - has 2 children lynda and neil - married john kirby 20 august 2004 - neil married pam - they live in widnes and have 2 children - luke and izaak - lynda married ronan in 2007 - they have 2 children rory and aoife - they live in ealing, london... clearys mostly in co limerick - the farms are still family owned - dalys concentrated in co limerick too - daly farm still in the family but owned by lenihans through marriage... the clearys are related to the ballylanders/ballintober/kilfinane dalys, condons, magners, tobin's, hennesey's, fox's... _____________________________________________ vinny cleary 2016... _____________________________________________ |
